Employment Insurance
Most people are aware that they pay into the employment insurance plan through paycheque deductions. If your are laid off from work, there may be some income protection as long as you are able and looking for work. But what if you are disabled from working because of injury or illness?
The Employment Insurance Plan has a limited "sick" benefit that is payable for up to 15 weeks.
If you cannot work, and there is a delay in receiving monies from other sources, it would make sense to apply for this benefit in order to ensure you have an income in the short term. If benefits from other sources are later approved, you will have to pay back the Employment Insurance for out of any monies covering the same period that you received EI.
